"nurse with no feelings"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

I had to stay in BVH for 4 days , i was the perfect patient concidering i was put on a ward full of senile old ppl that kept me awake litrally all night , i didnt so much as complain once about it , i helped by shoutin the nurses if i saw another patient in distress , the nurses barring one were brilliant , they all kept sayin how sorry they were that i had to go without sleep for so long , i replied with its ok its not there fault or the old ladies fault so i got on great with them , Now for the bad bit , i got one perticular nurse that i cannot believe she was even a nurse with the way she treated me , i dread to think how she treats the poor old ladies that dont know what day it is. first off she asked what i was in for so i told her i had been bitten by a dog whilst trying to break a fight up , she said infront of my 11 year old daughter you should of left them one would of died , she said it in away like she wasnted the dog to die , my daughter keeps asking why the nurse wanted her pet dog to die , our dog has helped me get over depression after losing my best mate to suicide , ive had no meds or even been to see a doctor about my depression , i got a dog as therapy and he has helped no end , so you can imagine the bond i have with this dog , then the nurse looked at my eldest daughter who was sat beside my youngest and called her a scuff because she wasnt very well dressed , she wasnt very well dressed because she's pregnant and havin a real bad time with sickness , she rushed out to visit me as she was worried , she shouldnt have to put up with insults like that it really upset her, then about 20 minutes later my husband arrived and i was on the bed and you could see i was in pain but i had been in pain from the minute i arrived understandable concidering i had my finger neally bit off , i had been on morphine and tbh i was light headed and feeble with it , she said to me are you in pain and i said a little yes , she shouted at me infront of my husband sayin shes not a mind reader and that i should ask for pain relief , i didnt know what day of the week it was never mind if i was due for pain relief , i thought it was the nurses job to come round with the pain relief, well all the other nurses did that , and the odd time i did ask the others i was told to wait untill they came round, now im back at home and more on this planet i cannot believe that a nurse can getaway with speaking to ppl like this its disgusting , if i had elderly relatives on that ward 34 i would be very concerned , now i could of kicked off on the ward there and then but in all honesty i wasnt in any fit state i was very tearfull etc , plus i dread to think how i would of been treated if i had kicked up a fuss , so i didnt say a word i just let her insult us and i was very very polite , probebly more polite than most would be so i feel my family and myself have done nothing at all wrong

Amanda,

Thank you for this feedback, good or bad it is valuable to us and I am sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience on Ward 34.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the behavior of this member of staff, I am currently liaising with the Ward Manager about their conduct who was very disappointed to read about your experience. The vast majority of our staff are extremely kind and compassionate and as a Trust we are committed to ensuring all or patients have an excellent experience whilst accessing our services.

I would be grateful if you could contact our Patient Relations Team on 01253 655588/89 and provide us with some further details about your stay to support us in our investigation.

Many thanks

Paul Jebb
