About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (London)

(as the patient),

What I liked

Firstlt, I want to say that the doctors were very helpful - best experience I have ever had (esp. A&E). I found their approach to being in the caring profession really good. I was surprised that their bedside manner was far better than the nursing staff who even saw me crying one night and did not offer to comfort me. However, I believe this is not a reflection of this particular hospital but a sad reality of nursing care in the UK.

The only bad point about my care medically speaking was that they never gave me any information about the drugs I was receiving. I had numerous tablets placed in front of me and was expected to take them without any questions asked. I believe I should be given all information about medication prior to consenting to take them.

The other problem was that I was admitted on the Friday and over the weekend the ward was not cleaned once. The toilets were filthy with faeces on the toilet seat and overflowing wastepaper all over the floor. I told the nursing staff but no one cleaned it. I was told to use the other one along the corridor (I was on a drip at the time). I think this is completely unacceptable.

What could be improved

Nursing care - be more caring
