"Urologist basically laughed in my face."

About: Darent Valley Hospital

I waited nearly two months for this urology appointment, two months of hoping someone would help me after years of pain. I have been having urology issues for god knows how long that are not normal and i shouldn't have to tolerate daily. I suffer from burning when i urinate, bladder spasms, burning when i sit down, blood in my urine, temperatures, and general feelings of not being well. Two weeks ago i produced myself to A and E here because i simply felt so unwell, again i was told to hold out for my urology app, bloods were done and there was no infection. I am three months pregnant also now, and i am suffering everyday with unbearable pain only mildly controlled by a low dose of antidepressants. If i stop taking these i literally cannot function or move without pain, and i am constantly off work. I know there is no infection I've done my fair share of dip tests. So i turn up for my appointment finally today at 1416 in the clinic. I was called in around 1425 hours. The urologist basically sat and laughed in my face that i was pregnant. He stated there was nothing that could be done for me, and to come back in six months, and that was it. I waited 2 months for that behavior. I do not find my condition funny, i even typed up my symptoms and detailed history, guess what? He wasn't interested. He told me i would have to suffer the pain while pregnant. When is someone going to open their eyes and see this has been going on long before i was pregnant. It seems if its not in front of them, these people are useless. I hope for the hospitals sake, that in 6 months when my baby is born, and they have told me to return, that it is nothing serious that is getting larger by the day, or blocking my urethra, because i will hold the hospital responsible for doing nothing for me on 2 occasions. Absolutely disgusting treatment of not only a pregnant women, but someone who has suffered for five months straight since a last severe UTI, having my hopes raised and told on numerous occasions, "just wait until you see the urologist". Disgrace that someone can sit there not only laughing, but telling me he hasn't got a clue. I even had to mention interstitial cystitis last time because i spend so much time googling this illness I'm clutching at anything to get a diagnosis. Disgraceful, the NHS is a poor service, i think I'll change my mind about having my baby here after today. As i sit here typing i am sitting in extreme pain, who cares though?

Response from Darent Valley Hospital

Dear Ms Foster We were very sorry to read of your concerns and we would like to reassure you that Darent Valley Hospital takes all complaints seriously. You mentioned that your urology problem has been an ongoing issue for quite a while and that identifying the cause has been problematic. We do understand that this can be very frustrating especially if the problem is causing you considerable pain. As you know we have carried out numerous tests to find the source but still need to make a confirmed diagnosis. With regard to the registrar that you saw in clinic, he does not recall making light of your condition. Nevertheless, we are sorry that your consultation left you feeling upset. We have spoken to your consultant who is more than happy to see you in clinic, although he has mentioned that being pregnant does limit the tests that can be performed. If you would like to see your consultant, please contact his secretary who will arrange an appointment for you. Kind regards The Communication Team Darent Valley Hospital
