"Superb service"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

I am writing this to express my thanks and appreciation for the superb treatment I had when visiting the endoscopy dept. on Saturday for a colonoscopy. The journey started when I booked in at the reception desk. I was, I admit it, shaking like a leaf, but the smile and the courteousness from the receptionist helped, and I sat down to wait for to be called. I didn't have to wait long until I was called into see the senior sister. She was friendly and put me to ease immediately. Everything was explained to me, and my medication checked. I was feeling much happier. I was then taken to a small waiting room where I waited about an hour to be seen by the consultant. She discussed and explained the procedure in detail. I had no qualms by that time, and was pushed on a trolley into the procedure room. I was offered sedation, but decided against it. The procedure was painless, albeit a bit uncomfortable. I was given gas and air, which I used at will. It was all over in forty minutes. Nothing nasty was found, thankfully. I was taken to a ward, where I had biscuits and tea. Which was welcomed, considering I had nothing to eat for 24 hours. All in all I found the staff, professional, friendly, and understanding. They made the experience, bearable in the nicest possible way. Many thanks to the endoscopy unit. A big thank you to all concerned.

Response from Royal Derby Hospital

Many thanks for providing us with your important feedback following your experience as a patient in our Endoscopy Unit. Our staff try very hard to provide all their patients with a high standard of care and I was therefore very pleased to hear that this aim was achieved on this occasion. I will certainly forward your comments onto to the staff in this area as I am sure they also will be most appreciative. Many thanks once again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback and may I also take this opportunity to offer you very good wishes for the future. Kind regards Miss Deborah Furness, member of the Patient Experience Team at the Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
