"My wife's psychiatric consultation"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient)

(as a relative),

My wife's CPN arranged an outpatient appointment with her consultant at Millbrook adult mental health unit as she felt her medication needed reviewing and possibly increasing for the depression. I accompanied my wife to her appointment where she was told she was on the maximum dose of her current prescribed medication. To my amazement, she was asked if she had heard or seen anything on the television that she would like to try! Neither of us are specialists and we don't know what drugs could help her.

She was sent home with no change to medication and asked to arrange a 1 months appointment but at the reception we were told that no appointments are available until the end of July. Fortunately my wife had an appointment for the end of June, which had not been cancelled with this appointment being brought forward.

I am glad that I was with my wife to witness such a ridiculous suggestion, because I am sure had she gone on her own no one would have believed her saying that she was asked to suggest her own medication.

My wife has now written to request a change of consultant. I wonder what she could have asked for and just what the consultant would have been prepared to prescribe? This has left both of us feeling dumped and unsupported; does anyone care any more?

Thank you for your posting, I have responded to your wife’s posting about your experiences when you both attended Millbrook to see the consultant. I'm pleased you have followed your concerns formally but please don’t hesitate to contact me on 0115 9555350 if you would like to discuss your experiences further. I will discuss the issues your raised in your posting with the lead consultant at Millbrook to ensure she is aware of the situation

Kind Regards

Jo
