"excellent care in Ward 1A"

My father has just spent 8 days in Ward 1A following hip joint replacement surgery. He is 93 years old and has dementia so he is not an ideal hospital patient. However he was treated with dignity and very good care and I was always able to discuss his status with the nurses and care assistants on the ward. I chose to visit my father at lunchtime when I could, but on the days when I arrived after his meal had arrived there was always a nurse already helping him to eat and who was then happy for me to take over. I was really impressed that this aspect of care for frail and elderly patients has been improved so much, along with general high standards. The meals themselves, supplied by Sodexho, were good. He had the vegetarian option and there was something different and attractive every day and he enjoyed his meals.
