"Nightmare hospital experience"

About: University Hospital Of North Tees

(as a relative),

Husband admitted to emergency assessment with pneumonia. The Filipino nurse on this ward was fantastic doing her best between 4 patients, as short staffed. She asked someone to get him iced water, as he had very high temperature, and it arrived 3 hours later, by this time he was dehydrated. Not her fault as she was fab. Treatment went downhill the day after, as he was moved to general ward. My husband was next to an old man who had no control of bladder or bowels. He was an obvious MRSA risk and should not have been on that ward. Husband should have had oxygen and was 3 days before he got any and that was only after PALS intervened. The liaison officer was the first person to speak to me. His bed was broken, backrest kept slipping down, not good when you have breathing difficulties. No communication, so apart from reading the charts which I understood, other than this no-one told me how he was progressing. He had severe headache, had to ask four times for tablets. Other than taking his blood pressure, pulse and oxygen saturation, and dishing out antibiotics to him, he received nothing in the way of nursing care as it should be. He was unable to sleep because of noise night staff were making, chatting and laughing. He heard one say that a patient had died on the ward and the other nurse just said oh and carried on conversation. No empathy whatsoever. He will be discharged shortly and if he is ill again, I would certainly not send him to this hospital. My dog had better treatment at the vets. Three stars - I don't think so. My concern is the lack of care patients are receiving and the flippant attitude of the staff and the aforementioned incidents. Just what kind of people is North Tees employing?
