"I never want to visit this department again!"

I was referred to the Maxillofacial Department by my dentist to check one of my wisdom teeth and one filling for a second opinion. When I met with the Doctor he asked me why I was there - surely he should have known this from my referral notes. When I told him why me dentist had referred me he said in very dismissive tones that he wasn't remotely interested in my filling only my wisdom teeth. He completed a 2 minute cusory check of my teeth and without even looking at me said "yep they all need to come out". I am nervous around dentists at the best of times and this wasn't why I was referred so I was pretty suprised by this. When I questioned him he became very abrupt and said they all needed to come out and there was no need to be worried as I would be asleep when he "whipped them out". He also said that in the past (before advances in dentisty) people would often die if they didn't have them removed. This really upset me and the nurse realised this and tried to reassure me and said I could come back and talk to her seperately if it would make me feel better - I think she felt uncomfortable at the doctors attitiude. I said I would think about it and got out of there as soon as I could. Since then the Department has called me twice to check if I am having the procedure. On both occasions I have expressed my concerns about the way I was treated and each time my comments have been ignored. Overall it was a horrible experience and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, I left feeling upset, scared and belittled. I have spoken to my dentist about this who was very unhappy and he has said that if I do have to have my wisdom teeth removed in the future he will refer me to a different hospital.

Hello, I'm very disappointed to hear this, it is not the type of service the department strives to deliver for its patients at all.
