"Really helpful, great service"

About: St James's University Hospital

I attended A&E with my grandfather, he had lacerated his head and after attempting to glue it at a walk in centre the cut was too deep and we were thus referred to the minor injuries department. There was a very little waiting time and my grandfather was assessed by a trainee ANP. He was given a very thorough examination, including a lengthy neurological exam and a CT scan to be certain he had not damaged himself further than the cut. All of the staff encounters were extremely kind and helpful and gave my 84 year old grandfather the respect and dignity he deserves. Afters a full mot it was decided the best port of call would to still be to glue the cut, however this was not a waisted journey and I am grateful for all the hard work and time the staffs gave. If I could offer any suggestions it would be that awaiting porters appears to be a lengthy and to me somewhat pointless use of staff seeing as though we had another member of staff and myself who could have transported my grandfather. Who was also willing to walk. But I am sure in this world of health and safety and preventative action from the suing culture we live in there is of course some reasoning for this. I appreciate the NHS is under great stress and pressure and is unfortunately misused by too many of our great British public whom do not seam to be aware of the greatness the A and E department could offer. In a busy world a less dedicated team could have merely stitched or glued my grandfathers head and sent him home. However I am extremely grateful for the hard work and good clinical practice that was shown to him. The staff were genuinely friendly, supportive and reassuring. We went home with the advise my grandfather stayed with me 24 hours. Just to be on the safe side. Thank you all for your hard work!
