"Birth and Maternity - Excellent service"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

I gave birth to my first baby in January this year and was very pleased with the quality of the service. The staff was fantastic, both at the delivery suite and at the maternity ward. As for the delivery, the midwifes were very nice and helpful. I asked for an epidural at some point, and was able to get it very quickly. I was a bit scared at first, but everything was explained very clearly and contributed to make me feel more relaxed. It later turned out that I had to have an emergency C-section; once again, the whole team was very friendly, which is very important under these circumstances. Overall, we really felt like staff were caring about us. I spent three nights at the maternity ward, and received daily visits of a breastfeeding support person. A physiotherapist also came to give advice on exercises after childbirth. The midwifes were always available (day and night) whenever I had a question to ask, or needed some tutorial... The only criticism I could make is that it is not always easy to rest or relax when you share your room with other mums and babies, but I guess it is the same pretty everywhere.
