My elderly mother has had three visits to Blackbiurn and Burnley hospital over the past twelve months. She has had cardiac investigations, needed an angiogram and follow up. All the cardiac department were caring and kept her fully informed about her options and treatment. She was involved in a car accident and rushed to a and e. She was seen by a consultant quickly and had an urgent ct scan and X-rays, they were concerned with her being on warfarin. She was admitted to a surgical ward and was in a lovely clean side room. She was reviewed by a consultant surgeon on the same afternoon who explained the scans and kept her in for observation. Even though she was not severely injured she was in a lot of pain. She was given pain killers regularly and checked by nursing staff. She thoroughly enjoyed all the cups of tea she was given by a charming auxiliary who always had a friendly chat. Recently she found a breast lump. She was seen at a one stop breast clinic at Burnley within a week. All the tests were performed on the same day. She was given the results by a consultant surgeon on the same day. Fortunately there was nothing serious. Through out all the visits she has been treated with courtesy and respect. She is elderly but fiercely independent and she has never been treated as an ' old lady' but as an individual able to make her own mind up about the care she needs.
"Great care"
