"Thank you"

To whom it may concern I am writing to you as I feel that not enough good is said about things that happen. I should have done this letter after my first pregnancy as that delivery was complicated and from that I thought the Wansbeck Hospital was second to none which lead to be in no doubt that is where I wanted my second baby born. When treatment is received from the NHS people will always complain when it occasionally goes wrong but no one seems to praise when things go right This is not how I feel... on the 5th Feb. 2014 my placenta previa started to bleed (alot) I was 35 weeks pregnant. An ambulance came swiftly and the paramedics dealt with a frantic me more than effectively and got me to the Wansbeck General Hospital Ashington. I was then dealt with on the delivery ward where I had lost a lot of blood everything was explained to me and effectively and I had to have an emergency c section under general anaesthetic from there my baby Tommy was taken to SCBU and me to the ward. I was supported and comforted through this difficult time especially that I had to be on the ward with everyone else who had their babies. It was explained that Tommy’s symptoms where typical of a prem baby of 35 weeks but still this has never happened to us before so it was extremely scary. We were never made to feel that what our fears were not justified which can easily happen when some health professionals working in this environment day in day out. I left 5 days after delivery as I had an infection this was picked up during my observations and dealt with extremely quickly before I knew it is was on iv antibiotics and paracetamol and was feeling instantly better. As I was still visiting the hospital daily the ward midwives offered to do my follow up care in the hospital and was very nice and supportive. Tommy came home 10 days after delivery and this was a scary time to actually take him home but he was cared for so brilliantly he was ready to be part of our family. I know this sounds dramatic but all the maternity/SCBU saved Tommy’s and my life that day and for that I will be always grateful and humbled by their commitment. People say they are just doing their jobs but no! This is a vocation the true hero's of this world. Right from the community midwives through to the excellent care I received from Dr McKenzie and the staff at the Wansbeck I would like to thank and commend them on a fantastic job.
