"Upset every time I take my mum to an appointment"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

My mother had her leg amputated a couple of years ago so has regular appointments at Disablement Centre, when I take her I drive past the back of the hospital, and it always upsets me at the state of the place at the back where private ambulances pick up people who have passed away to take them to funeral parlour. It is completely littered with litter cardboard boxes where I think people just chuck them there. It's disgusting I'm glad my dad didn't pass away here, he was at Maidstone! I know people can't see it but have some respect for the dead will you! I would like to see some flowers and such things there it's disgusting and disrespectful

Response from Medway Maritime Hospital

I am very sorry to read concerns. I would like to assure you that Medway NHS Foundation Trust regards the dignity and respect of the deceased as paramount. It is unfortunate that the designers of this portion of the hospital positioned both the access to the mortuary and the access to the goods inwards adjacent to each other. Though staff strive to keep the area as clean, tidy and well managed as possible, as the goods inwards function receives the majority of all consumables used by the hospital, there are inevitably times when cardboard is awaiting collection. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and we will of course see where further improvements can be made. Graham Morgan Associated Director of Estates & Facilities
