I had a (second) hip replacement almost two weeks ago (09/04/2014) and everything went well and according to plan. The room was pleasant and comfortable, apart from the standard non-ergonomic hospital chair, and much nicer than a ward. The care was excellent: expert and efficient as well as kind and cheerful. I never had to wait long after ringing the bell. I had been apprehensive about the epidural anaesthetic, but I was sedated enough to be unaware of the carpentry part and certainly felt much less zonked when coming round. The wound is healing well without any problems & looks neat. I had the first one done at Oswestry - a world renouned orthopaedic centre, but I feel the care and treatment at Furness was as good and entirely satisfactory. I do not hesitate to recommend the elective orthopedic unit for anyone needing hip replacement.
"excellent"
