"cleaning and maintainace"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

the level of cleaning was fair, bathrooms where very poor with broken and not maintained equipment, air vents and air vents never been cleaned. lockers tables in poor stat of repair wood exposed table tops with edges lifting up with dirt in. drip stand in very poor condition go where they want. windows frames looked dirty.drug trolleys left unattended not all the time, what concerns me hear is there where drug users in the ward, on discharged i asked for a copy on me hart trace was told not allowed, the reason i asked this question was the help the emergence services if i was readmitted, i was readmitted . they had no idea what my heart trace should look like apart from me saying it was not normal . this could have been made easier for them to asses the results if they had a copy. on being re discharged asked for some drugs was not given any as the charts and recorded where with the pharmacy and none could be give. this happen 2 times.once in discharge was sent back to the ward ("i had asked if i had a problem with my chest before i left the hospital where would i go to the ward again no was the answer A &E ) The reason why i asked this was the emergence response and A&E both said i should go to the ward. on the 3rd attempt to get discharge the same thing happened i needed pain killers as the pain was very bad was not able to get any until the discharge and paper work was back from pharmacy

William,

Thank you for taking the time to share information about your care and treatment whilst an inpatient at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. I am sorry that you experienced a delay in receiving pain relief whilst waiting for discharge from the ward.

When a patient is experiencing chest pain, we would always advise the patient to attend the Emergency Department and not to present themselves on the ward. This is so the Emergency Department can do a full assessment and then make an informed decision as to where the patient will receive the best treatment for their current condition.

I would like to apologise for the poor standard of cleanliness you witnessed whilst in hospital. We pride ourselves on presenting a clean and safe environment for all our patients and staff and clearly on this occasion this did not happen. I would encourage you to contact my team directly on 01253 655588/89 or e-mail: patient.relations@bfwhospitals.nhs.uk so that we can identify the ward you are referring to and work closely with the unit manager, matron and cleaning services to improve this area.

Kind Regards

Paul Jebb
