What I liked
Whilst waiting to see my dad in CCU i was asked to wait in the day room,i did only to be forgotten for 45 mins, this was after my father had been rushed in with blood poisoning and i did think he may die at that point.None of the staff seemed to want to be bothered by questions.Although there was one male staff nurse who did.On Berwick Ward-Staff nurses took the time to explain my dad's condition in a way i could easily understand.
What could be improved
communication between nurses/ other departments. Staff hygene, especially the un uniformed ones that wander from ward to ward.
Anything else?
My mother noticed one employee come and go 4 times without using the alcohol gel at the entrance to the ward,on saying something the lady replied in a sarcastic manner-'Excuse me but i work in CCU i use the gel at that entrance' I have been led to believe you use the gel when entering and leaving a ward no matter how near or far away it is from the next one ! I know the system may never be 100% great but you dont expect staff to get 'stroppy' with you for noticing their lack of hygene. This is why my father was tested clear of MRSA on admittance and 2 weeks later tested positive ! Berwick Ward-On the whole they nurses did what they could with the facilities they have. A lovely bunch who have a hard job. CCU- obviously arent getting paid enough / are overworked. They need some back up and support.
