"My poor experience in hospital"

(as the patient),

I was recently in hospital for four days having abdominal surgery. My experience was very poor. There where a number of issues that accrued.

1, while waiting in the day case unit and after my operation, I felt ignored. Drs, Nurses and HCA only spoke to me when they had to. I felt very alone.

2, twice I waited over five hours for a new canula so I could have my pain relief and anti sickness. There only seemed to be one Dr covering five units over night.

3, The Dr seemed more bothered about me coming off the iv drip than the fact that I couldn't take anything orally due to vomiting anything that passed my lips.

4, The nurses on the unit were that stretched that they just about had time to do the basic care.

5, Not all was bad, there where two Nurses that worked extremely well, who didn't just made you feel like a number and stopped to hear what you had to say. (they cared)

6, The unit was extremely noisy, yes it was a surgical ward but, day and night the doors where always slammed shut. The staff laughed and joked down the corridor's loudly, making it very hard to rest or even sleep.

There were more issues but it's too embarrassing to mention on here.

This was my second operation in 10 years and I pray that I never need another due to my experiences.
