"post surgery care"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

Absolute lack of respect and dignity shown to mother following hip surgery, seems ageism exists in 2014 .If you cannot manage to eat or drink unaided then you are not going to survive as staff either can't be bothered or just don't care. If you are elderly then it doesn't matter if you are left in a naked state for all to see, I am sure that if the staff were offered the option of being paraded around the ward with all on show they would not be forming a queue!

Thank you for providing this feedback regarding your mother's recent hip surgery experience. I am very sorry that you felt your mother was not treated with dignity and respect, as this is something we always strive to achieve with all our patients. We would like to look into this further on your behalf, so I would ask you to kindly contact our PALS team on freephone 0800 783 7691 during office hours (9-5 weekdays) or email dhft.contactpals@nhs.net and a member of the team will happily assist you further. In the meantime, I will provide your feedback to our Orthopaedics Department, but it would help us tackle this further if you were able to provide PALS with your mother's details and the ward she stayed on and when. I would like to take this opportunity to wish your mother a speedy recovery and to thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We value all feedback from patients and their families, particularly when there are issues raised that we can improve on. Kindest Regards Sarah Todd, Patient Experience Manager, Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
