"Coronary Care"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

I was admitted to the Medical Assessment Unit on the 9th April 2014, at approx 07.00: after the staff of Coronary Care saw the request for telemetry monitoring for me, they came immediately to see me, and transferred me to the Coronary Care Unit. From then on my care was superb: every member of staff worked seamlessly as a team, communicating with each other at all times, and communicating with their patients too. Whenever a nurse required the help of a doctor, a doctor came to the ward as quickly as possible, and the knowledge and skill of the nurse was always acknowledged by the medics. The nurses, though very busy, and chronically understaffed, always had time to stop what they were doing (if not already engaged in patient care ), and attend to patients if asked for something, no matter how trivial. At all times, I felt that my care was their priority, both mentally and physically, and this also transferred to my husband - whenever he had a question, it was answered appropriately and fully, and he was given respect and importance. Whenever my care required a proactive and emergency response, the nurses were calm and informative, professional and knowledgeable. At all times I was kept informed of my condition, and my opinion and consent sought. When I had to have an emergency temporary pacing wire inserted into my heart, the nurse who accompanied me for the procedure was exceptionally kind and reassuring, and helped to make an unpleasant experience the best that it could be. At all times, both the medical, but particularly the nursing, staff, were an absolute credit to the ward, the hospital and the NHS: they exemplified everything of what the NHS is supposed to be, and what the NHS can be when it is allowed to function. I do not have the adequate words to describe my admiration and gratitude to this superb department and its' staff.
