Having undergone major surgery this year my experience as an in patient at Southampton hospital being treated in high dependency unit and ward e 8 to be very poor indeed. Nursing staff presented as desensitized to patients pain discomfort and distress, nurses failed to respond to patients needs which included not responding to buzzers. There was a lack of on call doctors at night and a definite lack of any senior medical practitioners at weekend. Toilets were dirty with other patients samples being left for long periods due to a lack of nursing staff, cubicle size was insufficient with there was a definite lack of patient dignity and respect whilst bathing. Prior to my admittance I was given the wrong date which resulted in much confusion and distress due to a lack of effective communication and my date of discharge involved a conflict of information resulting in much inconvenience to myself and relatives not to mention expense. As a result of a wreck less decision to discharge me too early from hospital my care plan was ineffective resulting in an emergency admittance to another hospital due to serious infection which I'm still recovering from. For the sake of future patients I would request my complaints are investigated.
