"Unbelievable ( A&E and fracture clinic)"

About: Broomfield Hospital

After visiting A&E and being told my son had fractured his wrist. He was put in plaster and told to make an appointment for fracture clinic the staff on the Thursday evening at A&E were great. Friday the plaster has crumbled I rang and was told to go and get it replastered. After waiting for another 3 hours the A&E staff were very rude and really couldn't be bothered, they removed the crumbled plaster cast and told my son to wear a splint and that fracture clinic would sort it out. Fracture clinic appointment wasn't until the following Tuesday. At the fracture clinic appointment the Dr told us he had looked at the X-rays and there was in fact 2 breaks and that he needs to be in a full cast, and to make an appointment for 1 weeks time to check that the bones hadn't moved. Today we went to fracture clinic had more X-rays saw a different Dr who removed the plaster cast pulled my sons hand about and basically told us there are no breaks, I really can't understand how 2 breaks and heal within a weeks it's amazing..... He is in as much pain now as he was 2 weeks ago when this first happened. I am disgusted by the way he has been treated.

I am really sorry at the experience your son has had whilst using our services. If you contact me directly I can forward to the appropriate person in orthopaedics to look into. I have forwarded to the Lead for A&E regarding the attitude of staff in that department, It is unacceptable. jonathan.wright@meht.nhs.uk 01245 516891
