After a visit to the GP my dad was told to go straight to A & E to check for a possible blood clot and for a chest xray. The doctor in A & E took dad into a room where he asked some questions and dad explained why he was there and showed him the note that the GP had given him. He was given an examination and the doctor took some blood leaving drips of blood on the floor along with the wrappers from the needle etc. Dad asked again about the chest xray but the doctor refused to send him for one as he didn't have a form from the GP. He told him to go back to the surgery and get a form. Dad contacted the surgery as soon as he got home and was told that he didn't need a form for an xray as it was done electronically from the surgery. I had to trail back with him the next day where the xray department were very apologetic and efficient and completed an xray in no time at all. My dad was very ill and really did not need the extra trip to the hospital, the ringing around and the stress that it caused. It is not unreasonable to expect a doctor to know about current procedures and to perhaps be more helpful if there is any doubt at all.
