"great care but could be better organised"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

I visited A&E on 19th March and got excellent care. Almost all doctors and nurses I met were kind, compassionate as well as experienced and knowledgeable. However, having spent a number of hours in the A&E waiting room, on more than one occasion, I have noticed that the way consultants call in patients is extremely inefficient. The doctor comes in the waiting room, shouts out the patient's name (often unpronounceable!), tries again with a slight different pronounciation, wanders to the next room and calls out once more. At this point, the patient will usually realise they have been called, get up, take one last sip of tea from their paper cup, pop it in the bin, collect various items of clothing/newspapers/phones/medical notes and follow the doctor to the examination room. It makes you want to scream! A&E doctors work so hard and are under enormous pressure, even an outsider can see that. Please give this simple job to somebody else or even better give each patient a number and display it on the screen a few moments before their turn, just as they do in triage. Thank you

I'm glad to hear you had good care from our A&E team and have passed on your comments, and your suggestion, to them. Thanks for taking the time to post this comment - feedback from patients is always helpful in improving our services in future.
