"Rude and unprofessional staff at Charing Cross..."

About: Charing Cross Hospital

I rang up at 3.45pm on Saturday 15th March to find out if an elderly neighbour had been admitted the previous evening. The operator sounded half asleep and when I asked to be put through to Patient Enqueries she transferred the call but obviously the department was either closed, or she had transferred my call incorrectly as the ringing tone went ananswered. I called back and I was transferred to Secretaries Office. I spoke to somebody there who was equally unhelpful and extremely unprofessional sounding. They redirected my call to the Pathology Department which I was informed by recorded message, was closed. I rang back again and asked again how I could find out if my neighbour had been admitted. I was then transferred to Security at which point the helpful gentleman explained that Admissions was closed at this time, and he was able to inform me that my neighbour had indeed been admitted and gave me the name of her ward. He directed my call to the ward my call was answered by an extremely unprofessional sounding member of staff. I asked if I could talk to my neighbour, I was told, "no I don't think so." I asked why not, and was told that the ward phones were not working. I am extemely shocked by this brief insight into the day to day running of Charing Cross hosptial. My overwhelming impression is one of total incompetence, bad manners and general apathy. I can only hope that I need never to be admitted to this establishment.
