"The staff were amazing; they treated ..."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Manchester)

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff were amazing; they treated us like friends. They even picked up magazines etc in their own time for us on the way to and from work.

One nusrse who was not going to be in over Xmas came in on her day off to say goodbye to us and to see if she wanted her to get us anything.

The nurses coped with difficult conditions and took the time to explain our care and treatment and worked around us, treating us as human beings and not makng us fit around their routines.

These nurses do not get paid enough; they work long hours, often miss breaks and often have to do things I am sure aren't in their job descriptions. It is not their fault they work in a very old hospital that is difficult to keep clean (it is currently being modernised).

I caught MRSA which was not discovered until I left hospital, but fortunately recovered very quickly. The nurses did everything they could in the conditions they have no control over, and I in no way blame them for my infection. They could not have been more hygenic.

I recovered amazingly quickly from a hysterectomy and that is because of the care, support and information I was given by the nurses and doctors that enabled me to make the best decisions regarding my care.

I considered going private, but my GP told me not to waste my money. She was right. I was operated on a month after the problem was first discovered, and I was consulted at every stage by everyone involved.

If I ever have cause to go into hospital again, I will not even consider private treatment; I will be coming straaght back here (although I do hope that is never necessary!)

What could be improved

The building.

Anything else?

Nothing whatsoever!
