"the support of the community midwives ..."

About: North Manchester General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

the support of the community midwives during my pregnancy and homebirth.

What could be improved

having a homebirth was the only way you could be sure of having a midwife to yourself in labour because of lack of staff. this was evident at every antenatal clinic where there were always more women than staff.

it was also evident the one time i had to go into hospital. it was so busy my friend who came with me and was a student midwife at the time had to monitor me following an accident, because there as no one else.

Thank you for your comments. All four hospitals at Pennine Acute Trust have had a significant increase in their birth rates of 3-4%. The Trust has employed a further 12 midwives which means that each site will have an additional three midwives. We are working towards further increases in the numbers of midwives and doctors for Obstetrics.

It would be helpful to have more detail about your hospital experience so that we can look into this more thoroughly and would ask you to make contact with our head of midwifery cathy.trinick@pat.nhs.uk
