Arriving for surgery early morning the whole reception area was full of similar patients like a departure lounge. Eventually a receptionist called out 6 names, in a very officious manner, and told everyone else to form a queue, (herded like cattle) After a long wait I was taken to what is called a "Pod" which is infact a tiny cubicle with a chair, a cupboard & small desk. No one was allowed to accompany me.From then, after initial booking in I was left awaiting surgery. Bearing in mind this was a Mastectomy and I was naturally very anxious. This was it for the next 6 and a half hours, minimum checks by a nurse at first then I was just left. This treatment I found distressing and inhuman. Had someone been allowed to sit with me it might have helped or,knowing the list, being told to attend later would be more reasonable. At no point did I feel it mattered being left for so long.I would advise anyone to check out other hospitals first as they may have a better understanding of how to treat patients as human beings.
