There was an error in the discharge of my 93 year old father which caused all sorts of problems with his on-going medication. The RVI recognised this and responded promptly to my e mail via this service. However the instant I said I didn't want to make a complaint but did have some observations to make there was no interest in listening to any feedback as to "how to do things better". Just box ticked, no complaint. Trust me, the NHS is wasting huge amounts of money, seemingly because the staff can not see the wood for the trees, and the box ticking culture and lack of interest in feedback makes it hard for me to understand how problems like my fathers will not be repeated. If my father hadn't had an "advocate" I shudder to think what would have happened, surely constructive feedback could help make things better for the patients and the NHS? Why no interest in a view on what went wrong? If your busy all the time the trick is to try and work out what your doing wrong that is increasing work loads and not ignore the causes, more funds will not solve problems like my Dads. If you can not work out the cause of problems, and clearly they cant, then listen to input from those who can give different perspective. I know there are people who hate NHS being compared with industry, but Land Rover Jaguar needed help to become a great company again, if they hadn't listened to external advice does anyone seriously think they would still be in existence? The NHS needs to address the cause and not the symptom's of its current problems. All the caring staff in the world will not do anything other than delay the inevitable melt down unless this is done.
