"Hernia op: pre-op waiting around"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

Was told to check in at midday the day before my hernia op. I was initially made to wait 6 hours in a lounge/ waiting room - little explanation as to why & eventually told that there was a chance there would be no bed & I may have to go home (no regard for patients taking time off work for such planned ops). I was eventually assigned a bed and was operated on at 6pm the next day. As an otherwise healthy person, I had to spend 30 hours in hospital pre-op... what a waste of the patient's time and of NHS resources.
