"Parking eye"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

A couple of weeks ago my 20 year old son collapsed and had to be rushed to hospital by ambulance. He was unconscious when found in his bedroom and, to their credit, the ambulance arrived within minutes. To cut a very long story short, he later had to be taken by ambulance to ashington for a ct scan and was returned to rake lane to be admitted for observations. I parked my car at 3am to take him some kit for an overnight stay and settle him in and have now received a ticket as I omitted to pay. Not even hard pressed councils charge at that time and the people responsible both within the health trust and parking eye have failed to realise that people turning up to park at that time of day are not there for the fun of it. They are almost inevitably going to be suffering some kind of family trauma as I was, yet still they impose a charge and a fine. Presumably someone within the healthcare trust negotiated this contract and it makes both them and the car park management company look very mercenary and lacking in compassion. I have written to both the hospital and parking eye in he hope that some kind of common sense prevails,. I have asked for a review not only of my case but the general policy of 24 hour charging because I think it is hard to justify. I am not hopeful of a positive outcome.

Dear Sir / Madam, I was really sorry to hear about the distressing circumstances that brought you into hospital. I really hope your son is ok now ? I can completely appreciate that purchasing a parking ticket wasn't top of your priorities when you drove in that night at 3am . Please get in touch with me directly :annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk. I will need a few details from you but feel certain I will be able to help. With kind regards, Annie Annie Laverty - Director of Patient Experience.
