"Ward 34"

About: Countess Of Chester Hospital

We visited an elderly relative on ward 34 recently. I don't want to go into too much detail here but I have to say I was left feeling very sad to see how much his mood has deteriorated since being transferred to ward 34. Notices in the corridor (which, although looking very efficient many don't appear to be in use) refer to dignity, making sure patients feel supported (especially their toiletry needs) and most importantly making sure they feel listened to. Given what I witnessed, I doubt a lot of these are adhered to as well as they could be. I know staffing levels are low (being an employee of the NHS myself I am aware how difficult things are at this time), but I was left feeling totally heartbroken when visiting ended and I had to leave him. The atmosphere on the ward almost felt suppressed. I am hoping this was just a blip and my faith in the NHS will be restored at my next visit.
