About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) (London)

I called this department at 12.30 to report a needle stick injury and was aked for my details. I was told a nurse will call me back within 1 hr. By 2.15 pm I was calling the hopital only to be told a nurse will call me back. By 6.30 I had called many times now i was getting the ans machine where i left my details. The whole night I couldn't sleep with worry. I Visited my Gp the next morning having to take time off work, he stated I should have been called back and should have been invited to do test. within a certain time period. I called again at 09.30 to again get an ans machine again i left a message. Finally got through explained my frustration and upset to be told that the department was very busy and that they were in meetings, and although the message had been sent to a nurse no_one returned my call. The sad thing was after speaking to a anurse was suggested I had nothing to worry about no blood samples were requested bar 1 which was to saty in the labs for 2 yrs. I also explained my health conditions which were brushed off stating that has nothing to do with the injury?? After along conversation and a few tears later was told the likely hood of contracting was 0. Even though i have no immune system and where the needle came from is unknown. This cannot be correct. Thankfully My surgery did all the relevant samples and now have to repeat in 3 mths time. I'm sure all will be ok but really do they think people don't have worries or concerns. I will make a formal complaint and hopefully stop anyone who has to deal with this department to get the correct information. I have very little faith in this department and sorry that ST Charles no longer do this service in 7 years never have i experienced anxiety of frustration on this level.
