"I have been a patient many times ..."

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I have been a patient many times at Doncaster Hospital , on the coronary ward excellent care in every way. Plus the nursing staff superb, once transferred from there to a normal ward the care was far different. Not enough nurses to cope or know even how to change power syringes and some even how to do a ECG

What could be improved

Saw the cardiologist who was bad mannered from the start and refused to even listen. Was even told I did not know who did my last tests !!!, and that i could not have had a Angiogram without iodine which is untrue i had another contrast, and could not be bothered to even read my notes. Plus when they did find out they were wrong in every detail received no apology, plus their reply to one form of Angina I have been diagnosed with in London said did not believe in it. Then on the test they organised I was in the same room with the them for 1/2 hr they never said one word to me from me going in for the test to coming out. Plus stopped the test well before it should have been, I was having no pain and another 4 syringes left , plus I know how it should be done because I have had it done 3 times before, even the technician could not believe it was stopped so early. So nothing showed up. May be excellent at their job but manners and good bed side practice cost nothing. I pride my self on my manners and expect the same back, more so from so called professional people and not to be treated like some one inferior, because i said i did not want a procedure done, was spoken to like a child even though i am old enough to be their father.

Anything else?

I have been a patient in Sheffield , Mexborough and Doncaster Hospitals. The difference is unreal in the other two you are treated and spoken to like a friend even by the specialists, who on the coronary ward even help make the tea. Plus treatment excellent and felt safe and in good hands. Doncaster could do with looking and following them, more so some consultants even the top Surgeon at Sheffield took time to see me after work at Sheffield said would be better to have the procedure done but it was my body and my decision in the end. How you should be talked to, not you will do as i say or get lost approach from the Doncaster consultants. I thought the times had gone when they thought they were gods we pay their wages and they do a job like others. Please don't get me wrong there are some superb consultants and the nurses at Doncaster who do what they can, just not enough nurses and some consultants need to realise they are no better than the patients, there are posters up saying . Do not abuse or be bad mannered to our staff . There should be some put up in some consultants rooms saying . Do not be Bad Mannered or abusive to patients
