"The hospital seemed fairly clean ..."

About: Kingston Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The hospital seemed fairly clean - I was in the A&E area initially.

What could be improved

No attention was paid to my comfort or information given on what I could expect and when. I presented with severe tonsillitis/gladular fever and staff seemed offhand. The first nurse in triage/bank nurse was very capable though, but after that the standards really dropped. A Dr arrived and spent about 5 seconds examining me, spending most of his time talking to staff rather than discussing my condition or what would happen. He then disappeared and turned up again a while later again with very little communication. I was told I would be transferred to another hospital, and in the end spent 5 hours before this happened. When my girlfriend asked when we could expect to be moved the Dr rudely replied "Why? Do you have an appointment to go to or something?". I was in bed ill and unable to speak properly due to my condition - so was therefore unable to complain. I felt this was incredibly unprofessional. The staff even allowed an ambulance technician to whinge about not wanting to transfer me to the other hospital - despite Dr's at both hospitals insisting this was done for treatment reasons.

Anything else?

Absolute farce of a unit, maybe it was just that day - but compared with where I went next, which was arguably a busier and more challenging unit (St Georges), Kingston really flopped. There was no excuse for paying so little attention to my comfort and for the rudeness and sloppiness that I faced. I will avoid this hospital wherever possible in the future.
