"A most distressing visit (as per usual)"

I was referred to the hospital by my gp, so we found someone to have our young children and made our way to the a and e. The waiting time here was fine and we were put into a side room and seen by a doctor fairly quickly. We were then left to our own devices for a long period of time with no indication as to wether i was to be admitted, what we had wanted to know so my husband could make arrangements for the children. Finally at midnight, baring in mind we arrived at 6pm i was admitted with no warning and my husband promptly told to leave. The next day i was sent for a ct scan, no problems there. I was then informed that i would need a lumbar puncture, I've had epidurals before so i wasn't phased. 2 doctors came along to do this and after a total of 12 agonising stabs to the spine, all unsuccessful i might add, they finally decided that it might be better to let an anaesthetist give it a go. So a few hours later im dragged down to the anaesthetist with a headache worse than any I've ever experienced if i wasn't laying flat, a headache i now know was sue to the lumbar punctures, to be told that they were too busy and did not have time to deal with me now. So back to the ward i went. Later on and on the first attempt the anaesthetists finally carried out a successful lumbar puncture and i was sent back to the ward at well gone midnight, and informed it would be okay for me to sleep now. The next say the headache remained, along with the fact that i was unable to urinate without extreme difficulty. All staff were made aware of this and on Thursday i returned home. Saturday came round and the headache had continued to get worse, now to the point were no pain relief was working and i was unable to take more than 2 steps without having to drop to the floor and lay down were ever i may be. So my husband rang me an ambulance and back to hospital i went. I was this time admitted to a new ward, in constant agony, i was refused adequate pain relief, ignored, belittled, by both nurses and doctors. No one would admit that my pain was due to the mistakes of the doctors who attempted the lumbar puncture. Which i later found out should only have been tried 4 times not 12. I was then sent for an mri scan which again revealed nothing at which point i decided to take myself home were i would be able to provide myself with adequate pain relief, still with a chronic headache, unable to urinate properly and left distressed by the whole experience. Once i eventually recover i will be seeking out legal advise and most certainly wont be returning to Lister hospital again. Disgraceful. Unfortunately some nurses were wonderful but there good work was far overshadowed by the horrific and nonchalant attitude and behaviour of everyone else. What ever happened to he days when nursing and doctoring were caring professions!!
