I was admitted to Hammersmith for surgery as I had an empyema on my lung. I was a patient on the cardio thoracic surgical ward. The care I received was absolutely first class. Staff were kind and caring at all times. It's only a little thing, but the general assistants always took the time to talk to you. I spent a lot of time on my own without visitors and these people brightened up my day! On the day of my surgery I came back earlier than expected, a member of staff went and arranged a special meal for me so I didn't go hungry. The hospital was spotless. Contact with medical staff was frequent, I saw a Consultant daily. I really enjoyed the food, I like the menu system and the choice it provided. My only negative was I was moved to an overflow ward for some of my stay. Whilst down here I felt forgotten about, contact was far less frequent and at one point I was the only resident on the ward bay which wasn't nice as it might sound. My surgery went well, I was given access to excellent pain relief afterwards for the duration of my post op stay. I never felt that I was denied anything on financial grounds.
