"My Wife Died on Hexworthy"

About: Derriford Hospital

My Wife was treated as if she deserved her illness. She had been in and out of Derriford many times, but Hexworthy is by far the worst ward I have ever seen. She needed a drink and though I asked three times, no staff tried to help. If she was alone it would have taken a minimum of 2 1/2 hours before anyone cared, even after that time nobody checked on her. Excuses were given. Frankly I don't care if you're short staffed. Was that Her fault? Do I pay less attention to my loved ones? I'm sorry if we inconvenienced you. That's what it feels like, we're getting in the way of your little private social club. Shockingly bad and I will never forgive this horrific, careless hospital. Do as you will lawyers, I don't care anymore. You took my love away from me and I have nothing more to lose. I'm not posting anonymously. I want you to know who I am.

Dear Mr Burchell

Firstly, may I express sincere condolences to you following your recent loss. I was very concerned to read of Mrs Burchell's poor experiences on Hexworthy Ward and I appreciate this is an extremely distressing time for you and your family.

I would like to thank you for reporting your concerns and I would be grateful for the opportunity to hear more from you. I am keen to ensure that any concerns you have are appropriately investigated so that where indicated, we can improve the service to our patients.

I can be contacted on 01752 439751 or, if you would prefer me to call you, you can e-mail your contact telephone details to the PALS inbox at plh-tr.PALS@nhs.net

I am so sorry that you have had cause to raise concerns at this sad time but I thank you for doing so. I do hope that we have an opportunity to speak soon.

Kindest regards

Mary Anderson
