"Delivered my big baby safely into the world"

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) (London)

Unfortunately my baby passed muconium into my waters which meant I had to go to the labour ward instead of the birthing centre to be monitored and no water birth as I wanted. The birthing centre wamere lovely from the care I did receive up to that point. Because I was upset having to go to the ward, my midwife I had involved with must of my care pre natally came to the ward to care for me. When she handed over the next midwife knew I was trying to have a natural birth and supported me through this. When after over an hour of active labour and no success I was assessed and my baby was facing the wrong way and needed intervention. I was rushed to theatre by people explaining things the whole time, the nurses were kind and spoke softly supporting words throughout a usually scary situation. Despite my baby being 8lbs 8 they knew I wanted to avoid a c section if possible, and they managed to get him out safely with forceps. Afterwards I bled a lot, but they were calm throughout, explaining everything. I was cared for in HDU by a lovely real again, wonderful staff. The only reason I give 4 stars and not 5 stars was due to the rudeness of the nurse caring for me on the post natal ward, who (because I was keen to get home) when the dr discharged me she handed me my discharge papers and said "here you are your majesty"!

Imperial College Helathcare NHS Trust is delighted to receive your review. Thank you for taking the time to share your birth experience and for your kind appreciation for the care and support you received. We are pleased you were supported to have a normal if difficult delivery. We apologise that this experience was marred by the unacceptale comments of the nurse prior to discharge. We hope you and your son are doing well.
