I had gall bladder surgery on 3 March 2014 at Chase Farm Hospital. 35 year old female, generally healthy. I was very impressed with the organisation of the staff members. Everyone was very kind and caring and knew what they were doing. The process before the surgery with my GP took longer than I expected. I had 2 cm stone and had several gallstone attacks but they did nothing in A/E. They don't apparently do emergency surgery unless you are dying. I was once taken to Chase Farm and once North Middlesex A/E. Gave gas in air, pain killers and off you go..Anyway I managed to move my surgery date after many phone calls and visits to the hospital. I was very nerves when I went to the hospital early in the morning. I was welcomed by a member of staff and explained the procedure. I was then seen by a nurse, anaesthetic and finally saw my surgeon while I was waiting. Everything was well organised and time keeping was perfect. I was so cold when I was taken to the room just before the surgery. I was asked how I felt and I said "cold and nerves" A member of staff staff said they had hot blankets in the theatre. I thought he was joking. Within 20 seconds someone came with a disposable blanket and another person came with a machine that looked like a hoover. He open the pack and filled the blanket with hot air. I was covered with a hot blanket in seconds. it was unbelievable. He even asked "if I would like a glass of vine" he was joking obviously but I was so impressed and relaxed and went in to deep sleep so peacefully. I woke up and saw the same people and felt that I was in good hands. I think this is so important when you feel very vulnerable. The care in the ward was also excellent. My blood pressure was quite low and the nurses came to check it every 15 minutes. They were very kind and helpful. The only thing was I would be happy to see a doctor before I leave the hospital. I had the surgery in the morning and the nurses said I could leave in the evening if I felt fine. I did feel okay and went home. The next morning I fainted at home. I should have stayed that night so you might feel good but its better to stay in the hospital one night to be monitored. Thank you everyone for great care.
"well satisfied with the care of staff"
