"I was at A&E having been sent ..."

About: Newham General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was at A&E having been sent by my GP. The reception staff were very polite and helpful, in spite of the fact that we did hear other patients being somewhat impatient with them. After triage I was seen very quickly for tests and then by a doctor who really seemed to know what to do and explained to me everything about what might be wrong with me and how it could be treated. My niece had brought me and he answered all of her questions so we were both kept completely in the picture. I had to return next day and the following week for follow up tests and the care was of the same high standard each time.

What could be improved

On this particular occasion, very little. On the second visit we were delayed slightly by the fact that we saw a different doctor and she had not read what the first doctor had written down about me - that would have saved time, but it didn't cause a problem in the long run.

Anything else?

It must be very hard working in A & E when so many patients are aggressive and impatient. All of the staff I saw on this visit seemed to be doing a very good job under very pressurised conditions.
