I recently had to have a very painful (and self inflicted) finger infection dealt with at my local Minor Injuries Unit. I ended up visiting twice to have it sorted and redressed and on both occasions the staff were really good and sorted the finger out quickly.
I was advised, after my first visit, to make an appointment with my GP / Nurse to have it redressed - which I tried to do as soon as I got back, only to be told that there were no appointments available for the foreseeable future. This necessitated a second visit to the MIU, which this time involved a 2 and half hour wait to have the dressing changed (10 minute job).
So, while the staff at the MIU provided a great service and really were very good, the interaction at the surgery ended up with me being somewhere I shouldn't and potentially taking a place which would be better served for someone else. This adds strain and pressure on a great local resource and shouldn't really be happening.
"Great service at Minor Injuries Unit, less so from GP"
