"Unsatisfactory Attitude by Doctor"

About: St James's University Hospital

As a 99.9% fit and healthy person who has never until yesterday used the services of A&E (I am 32!), i attended as a result of being in excrutiating pain and after initially referring to the NHS Direct website it recommended that I attend A&E based on the symptoms I presented. The inital consultation was carried out in a professional and friendly manner by nursing staff - no complaints at all. However, I unfortunately have to say it was a completely different story when I saw the doctor. Admittedly the pain had significantly subsided by the time I saw him - however when he could find no formal diagnosis, I said I would leave as I didnt want to further waste his time - his response was "if you thought that you shouldn't have come in the first place" - I can only say that had I not thought that something was seriously wrong I definitely wouldn't have gone to A&E in the first place but use a drop in centre or my own GP. He then gave me some medication and sent me to sit back in the reception area to wait for half an hour to check that the medication given didn't have any side effects. When he came to check up on me and I said I feel fine he said he'd sign me off and then proceeded to tell me this assumed diagnosis in the middle of the waiting area with everyone being able to hear - giving blatant disregard to doctor-patient confidentiality!
