"Ward E52"

My father was admitted to Ward 52 after being admitted to hospital and given the news he had terminal cancer. This ward is the Elderly Care Ward, however I think the word "care" should be dropped from the title as I saw very little of that! On one visit my father told me he had fallen in the toilet, none of the staff were aware of this. On another occasion I found my father unshaven in dirty pyjamas. When I spoke to staff about this I was told that he had not asked for any help! He was nearly 83 years old and suffering from lung cancer and secondary brain tumours......could staff not see he needed help! Some of the senior staff definately need to attend customer service training. After being told by a doctor to spend as much time as possible with my father, a sister on the ward said to me, does my father look like a man near the end of his life? Less than four weeks later my Dad died. The care on this ward is disgraceful and I had to fight for everything for my Dad with the help of a relative, who is a community nurse and advised me what to ask for. In the end my Dad died peacefully in a side ward, again I had to insist on him being moved there in order for him to slip away in a peaceful environment with his family around him. I would not wish my worst enemy a stay on Ward 52!
