"Oh dear!"

About: Furness General Hospital

I attended this hospital to have an FNA procedure on a thyroid nodule. The doctor was very pleasant but did not seem experienced in this particular procedure. After a discussion with the nurse as to which equipment to use to store the sample (neither seemed entirely sure) he took the biopsy but proceded to spill some of it on the floor when trying to store it! The results came through as unclear (hardly suprising). I went on to have a second biopsy in Lancaster as I have a cyst on both side of my throat. I am not sure who is at fault here but the end result was that both biopsies were C3 (unclear) and the consultant cannot be sure that the samples weren't both taken from the same side! He couldn't seem to ascertain which side of my throat the Barrow biopsy was taken from. Why on earth wasn't this crucial information recorded at the time? Utter incompetency.
