"Long wait for infected foot"

About: Royal Gwent Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

My sister had a blister between her toes that had burst, her foot and leg has become very swollen so we went to the A and E department and waited to be seen.

We arrived just before 8pm and were seen within the hour. A nurse said she needed a pus swab, antibiotics and a blood sugar test. We were asked to sit back in the waiting room so we did.

Hours passed, the A and E department was rammed. After 2 hours of sitting waiting, a nurse pops out the door apologising that there's only 1 doctor to cover a few departments and he has over 80 cases at the moment. And I'm the only nurse so please be patient.

Another hour passed finally it was our turn. By this time my sister's swelling had spread more up her leg. We went with the NA, she said oh I'm not sure how to dress this and asked the nurse. The nurse said put an iodine patch on and wrap it up! Lucky I had reminded them to take a pus swab first before bandaging her foot.

Antibiotics will have to be picked up tomorrow as it's too late to get them now and see you in 2 days to change the dressing. And we were free to go!

No doctor was seen yet we waited for hours for a NA to do the job!

Very very disappointed tonight.
