About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

my mother is in ward 34 we have been told she could go to a nursing home everything had been arranged we were told she had been discharged so we went to nurseing home to wait for her arrival waited 4 hrs then rang her ward 34 was told she was not coming out had to travel 30mls back to the royal nobody can explain why we were not told family are at there wits end not knowing what is happening to our 91 yr old mother in our opinion the lack of communication is dreadful

Dear Reviewer Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. We are very sorry that you didn’t receive adequate communication about your mother. We absolutely appreciate that travelling such a long distance would have been frustrating. In instances such as these, if the patient is ready to be discharged we will do our very best to discharge them as quickly and comfortably as we can. But before we do that we have to ensure – among other factors – that there is no recurrence of the symptoms they had been admitted with, that there are no new symptoms and that there is a bed available for the patient at the nursing home. Unfortunately things can change suddenly. If any of the factors (as outlined above) occur then we would not be able to discharge the patient as we and the family would have hoped. This certainly wouldn't excuse any lack of communication, but I hope it provides some explanation.
