I was admitted to have a hysteroscopy day procedure, but nobody told me that I ended up with a painful uterine ablation procedure, I was not informed that such procedure would be performed if necessary before or after the op. I only found out the following week when I phoned one of the nurses because of the pain and I came around with a rubber balloon and tube inserted inside me. I woke up in a recovery room in extreme agony and was tended by a nurse who looked very moody and reluctant to talk, he displayed no compassion and clearly did not hide his dislike for caring a female patient with pipes hanging out from our lower region. It was beyond his dignity to tend to me. He was abrupt, unfriendly, moody face, made me feel that I was a nuisance when all I asked was a panadol to reduce my pain. He was mostly distance from me during the recovery hour. I never met him before the operation. Post operatively, I ended up wobbling to the bathroom myself in pain with the tubes attached and did not know what to do with it. I truly never got over that horrible experience to this day, particularly I was on my own with no friend or relative around. I am a very independent patient and hate to trouble nurses if I can do things myself. Please, please, please NHS, if you hire nurses female or male, make sure they show care and compassion on female or male patient, that's what they are paid for. Why be miserable and take up a job as a nurse if you do not enjoy doing your job? If for a culture reason they are not comfortable to nurse female patients, then they should not take up the job. Thank you.
