"recent regular visit to a and e"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

went into a and e on wed 26th march 2014,because of recurring acute pain caused by abdominal surgical adhesions, where I was put into a assessment bay almost immediately. when the nurse who was going to do my observations asked another nurse what she was to do, she was told " its tim bott , observations only, morphine addict ". after observations were done, the nurses took me round to majors center, where nurses whispered and stared at me, once my name had been mentioned, this made me feel very upset. I don't expect to be treated this way, as I have a ongoing medical problem that causes excruciating pain and also there is a care plan in place to help the nurses understand my problem. I have complained several times about this to the relevant people who assure me that this would not happen again, but if this is how the nhs nurses treat patients that visit their hospitals on a regular basis, then it is no wonder the Leicester royal infirmary has bad reviews

Dear reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns. The way you describe your health condition being communicated is not acceptable and I wanted to speak to the assessment bay nurses on that day before getting back to you, so my apologies for the delay in responding. Unfortunately the nurses are off rotation currently so I only have access to the notes relating to your visit. I am glad you received appropriate pain killers and that your care plan was followed correctly. I am also happy you felt your condition had settled before leaving the Emergency Department. Treating all our patients with compassion and understanding is important to us. I will feedback the concerns you have raised to the relevant nurses. While I can’t promise the future, I can assure you we will continue working towards professional compassionate emergency care for all. Finally, please let us know if you would like us to look into your concerns more formally via our PILS website http://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/patients/patient-welfare/patient-information-and-liaison-service/, email pils@uhl-tr.nhs.uk or freephone 08081 788337 Yours sincerely, Dr. Pro Mukherjee Consultant in Emergency Medicine Leicester's Hospitals
