To be honest, after reading reviews, the very thought of having my little boy at Queens hospital filled me with dread. I was booked in to have my baby at the Samuel Johnson community hospital in Lichfield. I went to Queens to have my baby's heart monitored as my midwife was concerned and there had been decreased foetal movement. While I was there, I actually went in to labour. I just wanted to say that from the word go, the staff at Queens were amazing. One of the staff on the maternity assessment ward offered to run me a bath, but when my contractions got to about 1 minute apart a few moments later, I was sent through to the labour ward. The staff on the labour ward were ever so friendly and made sure that they were aware of my wishes (I'd left my birth plan at home) and ensured that everything I'd requested was carried out. The room was comfortable and clean and I felt completely relaxed. I was moved to ward 16 after I'd had my little boy, and the staff there were lovely, they really helped me and supported me with breastfeeding and also with all the other little questions I had. I'd read that the postnatal care at the hospital was awful, but I really couldn't disagree more. One of the ladies on the ward even found me a vase to put my flowers in! I really feel that after my experience (and I'm a really picky, complaints kinda person who's very hard to please usually) the negative reviews cast a dark light on a really good maternity unit and should be disregarded. I would most definitely reccomend Queens Hospital to my friends and family and when baby number two comes along, I will certainly be returning to Queens if I am still living in burton! Thank you to all the staff who made the birth of my little boy such a stress free experience :)
