"The consultant was very caring ..."

About: Fairfield General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The consultant was very caring and her secretary was very understanding and helpful.

Time was found for urgent appointments.

Very proactive and personally involved, even when referred elsewhere.

Very clear communication.

Appointments always on time.

What could be improved

Had to pay for a scan to be done privately to avoid long wait. Some facilities not available at Bury.

Anything else?

As always, parking much easier at Bury than at the other local hospitals. Nearly as good as Salford.

There were always smokers around the main entrance, which is unpleasant and unhealthy. No one takes any notice of the signs.

Thank you for your comments relating to the consultant you saw and her secretary. Without further details about the scan, it is difficult to comment. However, should facilities for a particular scan not be available at Fairfield General Hospital, we can usually do most scan requests at another Trust site.

All of the Trust's hospital buildings and grounds are strictly no smoking areas. We apologise that people do persist in smoking. The Trust is very concerned about this problem on all the sites and has put in place a number of measures to address it. Our staff do politely ask people to stop smoking and move away from entrances - some do, but others do not and have verbally abused our staff, which is totally unacceptable. Please be assured that we are trying to keep our hospital sites free from smokers but it continues to be very difficult.
